Can We Balance Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health?

Can We Balance Productivity, Profitability and Environmental Health?

Yes. This eight-year study on cropping system diversity of conventional maize/soybean rotations and more diversified alternatives found that productivity of diversified agricultural ecosystems, with reduced amounts of synthetic inputs, can match and sometimes exceed more simplified input-intensive agricultural systemsGrain yields, mass of harvested products, and profit were found to be equal or greater in the diversified agricultural systems, while freshwater toxicity was markedly lower.
