The Guru of Grass-Fed Livestock

Will Harris of White Oak Pastures is a becoming a leader in sustainable livestock production. His great-grandfather established the farm in Bluffton, Georgia in 1866. Harris started the transition from a chemically-dependent system to a completely organic model beginning in 1995. Since then, he and his family have expanded the operation to include not only cattle but also hogs, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. All of the animals are processed in USDA Inspected abattoirs on the farm. The facilities are zero-waste with the discarded animal remains going to the on-site digester that produces organic fertilizer for the farm. The farm is open for tours and even has lodging on the property.
