The CSA Farmer’s Nationwide Guide to Accepting SNAP/EBT Payments

Zenger Farm, a Portland non-profit farm that accepts SNAP benefits as payment for it's community supported agriculture boxes, has compiled this thorough guide for other farmers with community supported agriculture programs looking to do the same.

While SNAP benefits are increasingly accepted at farmers' markets across the country, they are rarely accepted for CSA membership. Accepting SNAP benefits can be slightly more challenging to CSA programs than traditional forms of payment, as SNAP-recipients must pay week-to-week rather than in the traditional upfront lump-sum. However, "everyone deserves access to healthy food, regardless of their income level" and with one out of seven American receiving SNAP benefits "by accepting SNAP payments, [farmers] can help low income families access healthy food without reducing your income."
