Where I work
I am a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. When returning from Afghanistan I was honorably discharged from the military. I spent the next four years bringing my daughters into the world. Those four years went by in a daze and then I started having panic attacks. At the time I did not realize I had PTSD and my life was falling apart.
During this same time I was laid off of my job as an electrician. I decided to go back to school to become an Agronomist which I thought was as close to farming as I could get since I was not born on a farm. While I was going to school learning how to feed the world I was also working in food pantries in my city, and was exposed to the face of hunger in my community. This is why I was prompted to start Feed Iowa First. The mission of Feed Iowa First is to confront food insecurity by growing food and farmers. I started this in 2011 and to date am growing 25 acres of produce and donating it to those in most in need in my community.
I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Sustainable Food Systems from Green Mountain College in Vermont.
